Day 549: Only One Taste

Day 549: 8 November 2022, Tuesday

Haiku no. 259

my spirit withers

like the sun in November

cold and weak and small

In each moment, a fresh set of eyes. In each instance, a new perspective. Have a new plot of land each day. Relieve suffering on every plane—wherever it is found. Let all our work be a sacrifice in the service of transition.

Time passes whether you desire it or not. Make use of what we have here. Or don’t. It’s up to you. Wherever you are, be kind, especially to yourself.

‘Time is what keeps the light from reaching us. There is no greater obstacle to God than time. And not only time but temporalities, not only temporal things but temporal affections; not only temporal affections but the very taint and smell of time.’

Eckhart

‘This emptying of the memory, though the advantages of it are not so great as those of the state of union, yet merely because it delivers souls from much sorrow, grief and sadness, besides imperfections and sins, is in reality a great good.’

St. John of the Cross

‘I am come as Time, the waster of the peoples,

Ready for the hour that ripens to their ruin.’

Lord Krishna to Arjuna in the eleventh chapter of the Bhagavad Gita
